How to calculate the landed cost of goods from China to Uzbekistan: formula, calculator and real examples

The landed cost formula

Landed cost is all the money you spend before the goods are in your hands, divided per item. For goods shipped from China by cargo, it is made up of seven parts:

1. 1Item price — the price on Taobao, 1688 or Pinduoduo, converted from yuan into dollars or UZS.
2. 2Payment fee — the percentage Alipay or Taobao charges when you pay with a foreign card.
3. 3Shipping within China — from the seller to the cargo warehouse; often free.
4. 4Cargo fee — weight × rate. The largest variable cost.
5. 5Customs duty — only if you go over the monthly duty-free allowance.
6. 6Delivery within Uzbekistan — free to a regional branch; in Tashkent, free to your address for shipments over 5 kg.
7. 7Extra costs for sellers: packaging, a defects reserve, marketplace commission, tax and advertising.

Step 1. Convert yuan into dollars and UZS

Chinese stores show prices in yuan (¥, CNY), and you pay in yuan too — your bank converts the amount into your card’s currency. The Central Bank of Uzbekistan rate for 26 September 2026: 1 $ = 11 825 UZS, 1 ¥ = 1 761 UZS, so 1 $ ≈ 6.71 ¥. Banks usually sell dollars at 0.1–0.5% above the Central Bank rate.

Step 2. Add the payment fee

• Alipay + a foreign Visa or Mastercard — no fee if a single payment is up to ¥200. Above ¥200, 3% is charged on the whole amount: ¥7.5 on a ¥250 payment.
• Paying with an “international card” on Taobao itself — 3% on any amount.
• Your bank — many banks charge no separate percentage for foreign purchases with Visa, but some charge a flat fee per payment. Check your card’s terms in your bank’s app.

The Alipay fee is calculated for each payment separately. So if your cart comes to just over ¥200, splitting it into two payments saves you 3%.

Step 3. Shipping within China

More than 90% of Taobao and Tmall products ship free within China — the product page says “包邮” (free shipping). If shipping is paid, the amount appears on the order page and you add it to the item price.

On 1688, wholesale prices usually don’t include shipping: the seller charges it separately (“运费”, shipping fee). Check that line before you order, and check the minimum order quantity (“起批量”).

Step 4. Calculate the cargo fee

Cargo fee = weight × rate. At Door to Door, cargo under 1 kg is charged by its actual weight: for a 0.3 kg T-shirt you pay for 0.3 kg, not a whole kilogram. All your cargo in the same shipment is combined into one bill.

The series rate applies when you ship several units of the same product (more than 5–6), and the brand rate applies to branded goods. Transit time is counted from the day the cargo reaches our warehouse in China. Full terms are on the rates page.

Step 5. Customs: when duty is charged

In Uzbekistan, an individual can bring in goods worth up to $200 per calendar month duty-free through courier shipments — this is a government rule, and all shipments within the month are added together (Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 244, in force since 1 May 2025).

A single customs payment is charged on the part above the allowance: 30%, but at least $3 per kilogram. For example, if $260 worth of goods arrives in one month, you pay $18 on the $60 excess. From 1 January 2027 the rate becomes 20%, at least $2/kg (Presidential Decree PF-174).

Step 6. Delivery within Uzbekistan

• To the regions — free to our branches in 11 regions.
• In Tashkent — shipments over 5 kg are delivered to your address for free; picking up from our warehouse yourself is free too (until 23:00).
• If you need a small shipment delivered to your home, our operator will tell you the price.

Real examples

Example 1. Sneakers for yourself, by air

Cargo is only 17% of the landed cost. By road (0.6 × 5.5 = $3.30) the total comes to $31.47 ≈ 372 100 UZS, but you wait 20–25 days instead of 4–7.

Example 2. 20 T-shirts from 1688 to resell

All 20 T-shirts are identical, so they are charged at the series rate. With air series (3 kg × 11.5 $ = $34.50), each item costs $5.22 ≈ 61 700 UZS — faster, but 7 100 UZS more per item.

Example 3. Selling the T-shirt on a marketplace

Say the selling price is 119 000 UZS. The percentages below are for illustration only — check the commission for your category in the marketplace seller dashboard, and your tax regime with the tax authority.

On Uzum Market the commission ranges from 3% to 35% depending on the category. For self-employed individuals and sole proprietors, turnover tax is 1% from 2026 (for annual turnover up to 1 billion UZS). An Instagram or Telegram shop pays no commission but has advertising costs — divide those per item and add them too.

6 ways to lower your landed cost

1. 1Not urgent? Go by road. At 5.5 $/kg, road is about 42% cheaper than air at 9.49 $/kg; on heavy goods the difference is significant.
2. 2Ask the seller to ship shoes without the box. The box adds weight — there’s a ready-made message in Chinese for that.
3. 3Keep each Alipay payment at ¥200 or less, or split a large cart into several payments — you save 3%.
4. 4Pay in yuan and decline the “pay in your own currency” offer — you save 5–10%.
5. 5Combine your orders into one shipment. In Tashkent, shipments over 5 kg are delivered to your door for free.
6. 6Use DUR cashback. Every kilogram of air cargo earns 1–1.5 DUR depending on your tier, and 20 DUR = 1 kg of free shipping — roughly 5–7.5% of the air cargo fee. Details: DUR program.
